first hat, all done

The red nightcap is done, and declared perfectly comfortable and warm enough for all those frigid California nights. And, warning to all you loved ones, we've made another trip to the yarn store. It's time to start knitting for Christmas, he says ("mom, how am I EVER going to finish all these nightcaps in time?!"). Knifty Knitter, we adore you and your circular goodness.

  2. Gotta love a red nightcap in the summer. My daughter (9) just started her first hat using circular (attached) needles and they have worked great. She knits fine, her biggest problem is getting her yarn tangled up!

  5. Way to go! That hat looks g-r-e-a-t. I love that he says "Mom, could you please hand me my knitting?" Totally cute. You should start a knitting circle. Wouldn't that be fun?
I was embroidering the other day and Bruce said he wanted to try too. So I got him hooked up with some supplies and the two of us sat there with our handwork, stitching away. I love these boys.
And "circular goodness" may be the funniest thing I've ever read.

  9. I'm totally laughing out loud at this one! Yeah what a fantastic hat. I'd like one in green, the seven-year old in blue, the man in brown. Boy he's got a lot of work ahead of him, with all his relatives!

  15. That's so cool. I can't believe Ethan is so big! I remember when he was still crawling down the aisles at church. Looks like he's still just as cute, though!

  18. The best part about this picture is the baby with barely an article of clothing on -- while her brother snuggles in a thick winter cap!

  20. This is the wrong thread -- I want to leave a book recommendation -- but I was worried about it getting buried and never seen in the older post about I Capture the Castle. I recommend The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice. It is utterly adorable. It is a new book that has been compared to Smith's (because it is a quirky coming of age book featuring a run-down English manor), but it is wonderful in its own right. Also, if you have never read it, The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery is just about perfect.

  22. I think E is pretending to be in that castle in England (I Capture the Castle) in his night cap and all. He is living the dream! How I love him and A and L!
