matchy, matchy

Now that I have three little girls, I can't resist the urge to make matchy, matchy outfits. I know it's kind of cheesy, but I can't help myself.
A French shirt and skirt for the three-year old and one for the five-year old.
A tiny dress for the baby.
And with the extra fabric, a shirt for mom. Though I don't think I'd go to the point of wearing this at the same time. (pattern: Simplicity 2614).

  2. My four year old keeps asking for matching outfits. Every time I make something for myself she wants one too. I just can't bring myself to do it.

  4. Don't fight it. I have two girls and I did the same thing as long as I could get away with it. The outfits are adorable and your girls even cuter.

  9. Matchy matchy but oh so adorable and maybe, just once, you should wear them together because your girls will remember that moment for ever. Gorgeous fabrics.

  10. Not Cheesy! Adorable! okay maybe a little cheesy, but not with those lovely outfits. And I think everyone gets that urge at least once, if you have a gaggle of girl children to clothe.

They'll treasure your lovely work someday. (Or at least that's what I tell myself when my girls bounce up and down IN SHOES on their handmade quilts...)

  11. Oh come on and do it, wear them all together and get a photo taken. Please? These clothes are way too wonderful to be tacky or cheesy.

I've wanted to do the matching (or anyway coordinating) thing ever since I had two daughters, and more so now that I have three, but it turns out it doesn't work that well if you only get one thing sewn per year. :(

  12. You should wear them at the same time! They are all so sweet. At least one time. :-)

  13. Not cheesey at all. I do it all the time, in fact if I only make one of something, the other girl comes and asks for one. So I just do it automatically now! I don't make them wear matching outfits, but they choose to quite often. Ah, to be 4 and 6 again! :) (BTW I love the french shirt, did you make up the pattern?? I want it....A.LOT.)

  15. I recently have my second girl - know what you mean about making matching clothes all a sudden!

  16. I made up the patterns for the girl's clothes. I'll have to do a skirt tutorial at some point. It's super easy, just rip the fabric, gather and sew!

  17. M - so cute!!! I think the whole fun of matchy matchy is what a kick the kids get out of it. How can you say no to that cheap thrill? :) Now you just need to make Adam a matching suit!!

  22. Hey! I cut a top for myself out of that same pattern a couple of days ago! And I'm even planning to do the neck and sleeves in contrast binding.

    These are so beautiful.

Have you ever noticed that you get so many more compliments on your kids clothes when they're dressed to match?

  25. Laura Ashley made us all fearful of the matchy, matchy look. Your dresses are adorable like your girls:)

When we were in Paris I made sure our clothes all blended nicely and it paid off in the photos.

  27. I love the outfits for the girls. Do you sew all of their clothes? Also, how much sewing do you do for yourself? I go back and forth on buying clothes vs. sewing them...what are your and Lynne's thoughts?

  28. I love matchy matchy but yes perhaps the top may be a teensy bit too much!!!!! Thankfully my twins are boy/girl otherwise I'd be wanting to match them all the time!
