more of the six swans

Hello - it was so, so nice of Hillary to write about us yesterday. Thank you, Hillary. We admire you and your amazing artistry so much!!

Melissa and I are on a fairy tale kick. The first of what we have to show you - more coming soon, Melissa's are amazing - is a little picture I made for the baby, of the six flying swans who are waiting to be turned back into human princes by their poor mute nettle-knitting sister (do you remember this crazy story? for some bizarre reason always one of my favorites)...

Lynne, your six swans are so sweet and beautiful! I love them in the baby's room. Do you find her gazing up at them and daydreaming about her prince? I bet she loves them!

Lynne, your swans are so sweet! I love the quietness of this picture. You didn't say what you used to create it?

Wow, I do remember that story...I actually liked it too. I had a VHS of the story when I was real little. I recall it was sort of anime-ish.

Ooo. How fun! I really like that color of blue and the tiny crowns are great! I don't think my hands are capable of working with such dainty things :)
I'm afraid I haven't heard that story, but I'll have to look into it when next I'm at the library. I remember you mentioning it before...

Hi! THank you for all of your nice comments. I used a little bit of clay to make the swans. Very fun to do.

I love that story! I read it in a book of Swedish fairy tales recently. I found your blog via Wee Wonderfuls yesterday and am very pleased I did.

we recently listened to a whole collection of classic fairy tales on cd as we traveled. i had never heard this one, but listened to it over and over. i felt a special connection with the sister because i, too, only have brothers.

so, can i be adopted? an honorary sister in-law?

Melissa- Illustrator is similiar to Photoshop, but more for creating your own images than changing photos. It's my favorite over Quark Xpress when I lay out designs because I tend to use more drawings than lots of text.

A. is a lucky girl -what an adorable little room. I loved reading about you in someone else's blog - I feel like I am the lucky one to be sister's with you guys - although I did have to endure taking art classes with Lynne (who was very good) - and dropping out!

Hillary sent me over here! I am so glad that she did because I am feeling so excited about creating right now. I don't have children but I find myself getting inspired to create for the bevy of nieces and nephews that I have -- perhaps that is why I am the favourite aunt?

I have subscribed and I look forward to seeing more!

allbest,

The swans are lovely! What is the mobile? little acorns?

Carissa said...

Lynne,

You Sugar City girls are so popular (with reason). I love the little crowns on the swans.

Hello! Meg - the mobile is supposed to be Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, made out of little felted wool balls. But after an encounter with my 4 year old who was recreating in the crib one day Snow White mysteriously vanished, along with one unfortunate dwarf. I fear they met a sad death in the toilet, as other small things before them have!

There's a great retelling of the six swans story called Daughter of the Forest. I love the fairy tale too, and I think it is so cool all the fairy-tale based crafts you do!
