Tablecloth Dress

Hello! Melissa is on a vacation with her family so it's two posts in a row from me. Melissa, I hope you guys are having a great time! I am sure you are hatching all kinds of fabulous ideas.

The other day I bought this pretty yellow tablecloth at a thrift shop for $1, and made this little dress for the 4 year old. The dress was originally longer, but when I tried it on her all I could think was Mrs. Roper (I'm sorry mom. It's true. I always snuck down to the basement to watch "Three's Company" while you were running errands. I LOVED it. But don't worry, I didn't get the sexual innuendo until Courtney explained it to me my freshman year at college). SO, I shortened the dress to knee-length and now I think it looks so springy and cheery. And there is enough tablecloth left to make a matching one for the baby.

*the pattern I used for this is Simplicity 4767. Thanks for all the nice words!!

Sweet! I've got something similar in mind for some vintage bedlinens accumulating in my closet. Of course, they might end up as pajama bottoms too...

ps - love the peek at your shelves, too. ;)

Wow! Just wonderful! I've just been sent your blog address. I'm do excited to see the clothes that you are sewing for your kids. I love to sew clothes for mine. Do you mind sharing a pattern name/# for this dress and then that green jacket you made a couple of years ago? It is perfect.

Cute dress! And great $1 find.

[We weren't allowed to watch Three's Company when we were growing up. My father did not think it was right that they all lived together :-)]

What a great dress!! I've enjoyed reading your blog and I'm sorry I've never posted to say so.

Anyways, we weren't allowed to watch it growing up either. Now I see reruns on cable and think it is pretty mild compared to the stuff on tv today.

Adorable Lynne! I really love how your hung it for the picture too.

Okay, I did watch Three's Co. and what sexual innuendos were you referring to? The ones with the roomies or the Ropers? OR all of the above? (I was a latch key kid)

What a pretty little dress. I love that it is simple, yet very cute.

I do remember watching Three's Company...can't remember how old I was then though.

Thanks for the laugh Lynne! I know you all watched a lot of t.v. behind your mom's back. I've heard lots of those stories. That little dress is a beauty. I love the way you photographed it with a mix of colorful books in the background.

Darling dress! Pretty and simple. I love projects like this.
Too funny that the longer version made you think of Mrs. Roper - I do see what you mean though. LOL

I found your blog through Alicia's,and was very impressed with all the children's clothing. I use to non stop make fun children's clothing when my daughters were young. I loved the older post of the woodland room with little red riding hood. Very talented. Not sure who did what on the various photos, but what a fun blog.

Wow Lynne. Super cute. I'll have to look up that pattern; it looks like one you could use over and over again.
I wasn't allowed to watch 3's Company either. Or Fantasy Island, which I believe came on right after that. Every once in a while I would say, "Oh, I need a drink of water" and then just walk re-e-e-e-a-a-a-ly slowly to the kitchen. Jane watched the entire series of Dallas when they showed it on cable a few years ago just to see what she had been missing :) So deprived :)

That Mrs Roper comment cracked me up! I also was not allowed to watch that show. The dress is precious.

OK--I had to sneak Three's Company too. It wasn't allowed in my house and I never understood why. Love the dress. Mrs. Roper would be proud!

So the truth comes out! No wonder the TV was hot to the touch when I returned from my errands! Yea, I let you get away with it. I love the dress but you more. Mom
