fly, fly little twirly skirt!

I love to watch movies with my man when the kids are in bed. We snuggle up together under our warm denim quilts and enjoy a few moments of calm together. Occasionally he'll rub my feet, sometimes even with lotion. Over time, we've accumulated a list of amazing movies: our favorites being BBC and old classic films. (Long live Netflix for delivering them to our door ever other day!)

This fall while watching Hitchcock's the Birds, inspiration came my way: a twirly skirt covered with birds. Dozens of birds flying frantically this way and that way. So immediately I got out my fabric and started snipping and sewing, and la voila!

This is a high flying twirly skirt, probably the twirliest of all. And with a stretchy elastic band, it's easy to put on, and has become the default skirt that H. would wear everyday if I let her! So don't fly away little twirly skirt. Stay with us. We like you.

adorable, and a great idea for clothes that grow with you. I'm trying to come up with a few basic styles for Lucie that she can wear for a while, and then buy the rest...

As ever, a totally fantastic project.
I think that my hug-a-bug needs a twirly skirt to wear to dance class.
Did you paint the birds on that fabric?

Just lovely. Love how you stacked up the pillows for the picture.

Just divine, I love how the birds appear to be flying across the skirt.

Also love the stack of pillows, any chance you could be convinced to share some corners of your home. I'm sure it's as gorgeous and well thought out as the beautiful clothes you make.

Dresses inspired by movies, that's fun! My seamstress friend is going to make a mini emerald green dress inspired by the one Kiera Knightley wore in Atonement for her daughter! By the way, thank you for the Zola post because it helped me finish a crossword this weekend!

So adorable, and that photo of your daughter, too. It looks professional. Both do.

the skirt is divine and the pic on the stack of pillows is rather excellent too.

Um, just so long as the skirt doesn't also attack you and peck you to death, as its inspiration (the Hitchcock) might suggest. THAT would be scary!

When will bloggers be able to respond to comments by email?!? I have thought about wordpress, and I have even opened an account, but I am still trying to work out getting my archives transfered. Yuck!

I just love that you translated a feeling in a movie to fabric!! That is cool. And the blue is beautiful...no wonder she wants to wear it frequently! I love watching old movies... we are avid Netflix customers too. And your husband is definately a keeper!
