a little paint-by-numbers dress

Did you see the wood-cut states made from old paint-by-numbers paintings that http://somethingshidinginhere.typepad.com made? I caught a glimpse of these this morning just as I was in the middle of sewing this little dress. They are so cool. Check them out.

The scene I used as my inspiration for the paint-by-numbersesque pocket on this simple dress was the meadow of my in-law's Virginia home--one of the most beautiful places on the earth, in my opinion. H. likes this oversized pocket too. Especially since I put a little pack of gum in it so she would pose as my model. For my kids, there's no better bribe than some gum! I hope I don't find it stuck in the back of her hair tonight. That often seems to happen when I resort to this bribe...

Love it! The green and linen are such a wonderfully soothing combination!

What a great idea! Can I ask what kind of paint you used?

Also, not to be pushy... but I noticed that you rarely post your amazing photos on flickr. Pretty much every time either of you post on your blog, I am dying to save your creations to my favorites so I can look back to them later. I'd love to see more of both of your talent over there...

Absolutely adorable! I've been wanting to make a similar style dress for both of my daughters.

I'm in agreeance with sew nancy, have you ever thought to do patterns or tutorials?

An adorable model modeling an adorable dress! I love the pocket and the shoulder ties. Great!

(I resort to the gum bribe, too. Mostly in church to keep them quiet.)

melissa, just when I think - THIS is my favorite thing Melissa has ever made - you pop something new out that tops the list. I LOVE this!! I LOVE the green lining, and I LOVE that pocket that does remind me so much of my little childhood meadow. H. looks so cute in this, by the way...

I love that it looks a bit like an artist's smock with the little tie-on shoulders. And the blouse is perfect underneath! Do you actually have a wall in that pattern or are you getting creative with photoshop?? Your photos are always so perfect, just like your clothing!!!

ah yes, gum. my daughter stuck her (chewed) gum in the pocket of her pants the other day to "save for later".

Love the dress. Is that Hannah's room? I love the wall paper - I can't believe I didn't see it on Sun. The meadow makes me homesick for VA and home! Thanks for sharing.
