what to make with your husband's old shirt!

A mushroom shortall: the perfect use for the husband's old dress shirt. The fabric is luxurious-- with a high thread count--and it's even non-iron! This also made for a relaxing summer porch activity. In and out with the needle (sewing by hand makes me feel really vintage), interspersed with, "Adam quit spraying me with that darn hose!" and, "no, you may not go pee pee on the grass" (to the potty-obsessed two-year old), "no the gallon of milk does not come out on the porch" (to the four-year old), "Ahh, stop it with that hose!" (to the son) and "put your clothes back on!" (again to the two year old). Whew, sewing by hand is hard work!

I have honestly never considered sewing clothing for a human by hand. Doll clothes, sure, but not people. Not even small people. Way to be vintage.

You should sell your patterns on Etsy. This is such a cute idea.

Oh my! That is SO darling and what a fantastic use of an old shirt. Way to repurpose.
I'm sure you just came up with the pattern on your own. Cause you're smart like that, but just in case you didn't let me know so I can make one too! I could try to figure it out, but I'm sure to mess it up.

My eight year old boy sill wants to pee on the grass. It's a boy thing, I think!

Lovely little outfit and such excellent use of an old shirt.

Love the shortall! I never thought of using old dress shirts. Hmmm. Something to think about.

And I had to laugh at your child peeing outside. I am still telling my boys to stop. The 7 1/2 year old just did it tonight!

brilliant idea to use the high thread count no-iron fabric for dainty baby clothes! sometimes the iron seems like a looming enormous spacecraft wondering just where to land on something so tiny and detailed- problem solved.

That is adorable. I'm guessing it didn't have the toadstool on it when your husband wore it.
Very cute!

Super cute. I really love white and red for little girls, but man, do I have a hard time finding it. Plus, my little girl loves mushrooms! This is the perfect outfit :)
And I agree about handwork. It is 100% therapeutic and relaxing.

this is adorable.
I recently made some Father's Day gift bags out of old shirts of grandpa's ... I turned them upside down, sewed the neckline and armholes closed, then used the bottom hem of the shirt as a casing for a drawstring... kind of a fun way to re-use and re-purpose...
your idea is much more fashionable.. though.
=)
adorable
