So, when it all came down to it, the four-year-old, who is now five, had a very fun time at her loosely-themed imaginary animal birthday party. Here are some pictures of the merriment. Our simple party favors - swedish fish in a tea cup, with a bookmark
cupcakes (what child doesn't like funfetti?)
our burro pinata (when we broke it up, the children started spontaneously chanting "kill the horse, kill the horse." it was a little Lord of the Flies-ish)
we did a treasure hunt to find all of the things to make a little farm/fairy/whatever-you-think-it-is hut out of small peat pots and other little objects
a child attempting to glue a live snail into her scene (we found out that glue doesn't stick to snails, and that they make strange clear bubbles when they feel threatened. Apparently getting glued to cardboard is threatening.)
and a little thank you note that we made together. all done.

Sounds like a fun party. The snail bit has me cracking up.
Ooh! I want to come to that party!
What fun!
And fairy houses! How perfect!
Pinata scenes can be a little scary! I'll never forget when a three year old at my daughter's party years ago cried, "Bash his brains out!" All the mommies choked on their punch!
Becky
this is great...and hilarous between the snail and the pinata -- brilliant.
glad to see the peat pot craft in action...we are for sure stealing that for the fairy party!
Small child thinking to glue a snail... I shouldn't laugh, but I did! It's just the sort of thing a wonderful, young, and innocent hearted child would think of. Too funny! I can just see the growing frustration as the snail moved on his slow, but merry way... LOL!
loved the merriment!!! Great photos
LOVE! swedish fish, I bet the kids were delighted =)
how fun, it looks like you had a lovely time.
Great fun Lynne! I cannot even believe she is 5! I remember the day we met and she was crawling around in her diaper. Kinda like A right now. Love your kids!
Good lord! Snails don't like being glued to cardboard? Why ever not?! ; )
What is funfetti?
Oh, the poor snail! My girl had never seen such amazing creatures as the giant snails at your house. What an amazing party! I wish we could have been there!
What a great party. I would love to be a fly on the wall of your sweet one's head. What a great imagination she ahs and what a fun party idea you had. I love the "kill the horse" attitude!!!
OH! What fun! My soon to be 3 yr old wants a fairy party this year. I love the fairy houses, great idea, so fun to see what they come up with. Gluing a snail...heeheehee.
Happy Birthday Lily!! LOVE all the party decorations - those cupcakes look delicious!!
xo
prue - i am so glad i can educate you about funfetti. it is a type of cake mix where an abundance of sprinkles are already in the mixture. brilliant.
If someone tried to glue me to cardboard I think I'd be a little put out, possibly even threatened! I totally get where that snail was coming from! (Great party! Sounds like a fun group of girls!)
Lynne, with the funfetti: you mean there are 'Hundreds and Thousands' within the cake, not just on the icing? I don't think we have that in Australia!
prue - yes!!! exactly!! hundreds and thousands of sprinkles within the cake! it is very exciting to eat funfetti. maybe you can be the one to start an australian funfetti craze?!
Lucky Lily! Her party actually sounds fun FOR CHILDREN!
We'll have to try out the funfetti thing. It must make the cake extra crunchy, and presumably some of the colouring runs a bit too. Hope it doesn't end up like crunchy mud!
such a lovely and very creative party!!!
oh please tell me that wasn't my child who tried to glue the snail...she failed to mention that when she came home!
wow, it looks like a great party, I love the pinata, we did that too it was a big succes!
Sounds and looks like it was very memorable!!
This looks like so much fun, and very non stressful! I love the thank you cards, so very very cute. And the Lord of the Flies comment cracked me up!
