village frock in red

My husband's cousin told me that she recently made a dress for her daughter. To her chagrin, her daughter refused to wear it. I suggested she sew some picture of an animal or princess or the likes on the inside of the dress. I think kids can be tricked into liking what we make for them. To make this red dress more likable for cousin Elizabeth, I sewed on a simple little picture of herself. I hope it works!

P.S. If all goes well at the printers, the village frock pattern will be for sale in our shop next week!

they can be tricked! i love the idea of having a little secret inside clothes, anyway. i have a wonderful jacket but the best part to me is the secret pink lining. . . .

i love these village sleeves. i want them for myself.

Trickery... I like it! That is a gorgeous shade of red. Who wouldn't want to wear that?!!

How did you get her picture on? Is it using iron on transfer?

Of course I am biased but I LOVE this dress and so does Elizabeth. I love the background too - it really makes the picture. You can't tell E was crying while getting the photo's taken because she wanted to play with the other kids!!

Thank you so much - we are thrilled with the dress.

How exciting. I will definetly be purchasing a village frock pattern. The dress is so cute.

I have tricked our daughter into wearing clothes. Funny what we'll do.

Oooo, I'll have to try this technique myself. But where do I find the time to make and sew images into my clothes? Stickers would be too tacky, right? Probably. I guess I'm not above being tacky as long as I'm the only one sees it:)

What a great idea! I am not above bribery and bargaining, but this might be easier. :)

I hop you are having a lot of patterns printed. I'm very scared they are going to be sold out!!!
Any chance of a pre-order? That way you would have a fair idea of how many will need to be printed.
I, for one, would be perfectly happy to pay up front.

This is without a doubt THE most beautiful dress I have seen in a long time. If indeed you are selling patterns, sign me up in advance, also! I, too, would be happy to pay up front.

When are you going to do a craft book? I think the world needs it.

This is a great idea! And the dress/color/WHOLE thing is just gorgeous. I love the idea of sewing something that they love into the garment. When my son was peeking at batman splashed t-shirts and I was getting a little nervous about entering the Target/action figure "put an add for a movie on your kid" business we started drawing and scanning pictures of his favorite book characters onto fabric for his t-shirts i.e. Aslan, Frog and Toad, Toot and Puddle. Now that I write this I am realizing that is probably totally illegal even if I drew them and they are not fabulous. Well, you get the idea. We did it with animals too so those are public domain right?

I'd love to pre order too. What type of fabric did you use? Is it a linen type fabric? Love your stuff!
