pippi

This is our family's favorite book, ever (so far). Isn't it so fun as a parent to introduce your kids to your old book friends? (and Lauren Child's illustrations in this version are just so, so, so, so perfect)

"The day had been filled with pleasant activities. She woke up early and served Mr. Nilsson [her pet monkey] juice and rolls in bed. He looked so sweet as he sat there in his light blue nightshirt, holding the glass with both hands. Then she fed and groomed her horse, telling him a long story about her travels at sea. After that she went into the living room and painted a big picture on the wallpaper. The painting showed a fat woman in a red dress and black hat. In one hand she was holding a yellow flower and in the other a dead mouse. Pippi thought it was a very beautiful painting."

  12. okay...since everyone is talking about what a darling 'Lola' is...I have to include that we have 'Talk Like Lola Days'...our entire household (excluding dad) walks around speaking with our best English accents (with a southern drawl thrown in). The kids pick up on it much better than I do!
Try it, "ya'll" will like it~

  33. Oh my, we just read this too and are in love with Pippi. IT's a great translation and those illustrations are fa-bu-lous, no?. In fact, I'm planning a post about how this book has been enjoyed soon. For starters, it made my daughter want to have her hair braided, something she's resisted for the last 4.5 years! I am thrilled!

  34. I never knew Pippi as a child but my daughter got Lauren Child's version for her birthday last year. We were in fits of giggles reading it together and has become a firm favourite!

  37. we have this here too, but as my kids are raised in german, it will last a little until I can read this to them - they did some german versions of charlie and lola - but in german sometimes lola is pia - and I can´t help myself - this just doesn´t work for me!

  40. I get great library books for my niece and nephews...and loved the first photo you posted - of your daughter reading the book. My library has it! woo hoo!

I grew up with the book and adore it. So happy to introduce it to family!

Oh..and my mom has a photo of me as a young girl, sitting on a table in front of the window - swinging my legs, hair in braids - while I read a book. That's why this photo caught my eye!
