Did any of you happen to read about the research done by a cultural anthropologist at the University of Durham? Apparently the Little Red Riding Hood story might be thousands of years old. Maybe that's why we like it so much. Check out the article in the

Our family's favorite version is retold and illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. It was a Caldecott Honor Book.

Just read the article ... geez ... they tried (in German TV) to discover the orgines of fairy tales ... fairy tales where never destined to be entertainment, but studies, warnings and so, people needed simple stories, tales to get a message thru and teach kids to be careful, to watch for each other and so on ... I like the "back-ground" research and what you learn from it :D
In school we had to rewrite -red-riding hood ...

That is very cool! fables are good as bedtime stories. I could still remember my mom telling me the story of red little riding hood.
