But my real advice, go check the SS Index of top 100 names. Don't pick anything in the top 25. Then ignore 25-50. 51-100, there's where you pick from. Anything past 100 eh...probably not. And use the most common spelling. ALWAYS. Uncommon spellings do make the name "special". It makes the kid look like they have parents that don't know how to spell. Oh, and name your child for the woman she will become, not the baby she is.

I wanted to call my first daughter Olive but couldn't convince my husband and she got Sophia instead. Don't get me wrong, I love the name Sophia too but my love for Olive just simply wouldn't fade. 3 years later I had worn him down sufficiently that he relented and we welcomed Olive Coco. Hooray!
Wow, you've gotten some GREAT names here - makes me want to adopt something so I can name it. Here are a couple that I didn't see, but maybe missed: Tallulah, which I love, but couldn't sell my husband on, and Clover, which I did sell him on. And she's perfect, so I know its a good name.
Someone asked how to pronounce Isla. It is pronounced eye-la. Isn't it beautiful?

Oh yes, another one. We go to church with a family that named their little one Gemma. Isn't that adorable? These little girls are such "gems", I thought it was so fitting. She and her husband served a mission Russia, I think that is where she first laid ears on it. :)

A third vote for Willa. Love Willa Cather's books. Also, I once met the most graceful French woman named Ghislaine. I've always loved that name, though it never quite worked for our situation. I also loved the name Kajsa (Swedish), but alas, have gone with more traditional American names for my own kids. Goodluck!

I have to second Missy Anns comment about naming your child for them woman she will become, not the baby she is, after all, you do hope that she will one day grow up to become a strong, independant woman (or any other qualities you'd like her to have, these were my preferences).
I would bevare of the name Michel that someone suggested, it's a traditional mans name in big parts of the world. I also dislike naming girls names that end in "-son", maybe because my mother tongue is Swedish, but Mason means "Marks son" and I don't really see it fitting for a girl or a woman, the same goes for Adams son (Addison) and Anders/Andrews son (Anderson). Anyway, I think You are going to choose a lovely and fitting name for your little girl (which she will be even 50 years from now), these tree objections are just something that keeps bugging me every time I see names being discussed on the Internet, and I had to let it out :-)

I discovered your blog from your Black Apple doll template, which I am planning to make for my little one, her name is very special to me, she was named when I was 10 years old, and I had her when I was 25. I loved Anne of Greene Gables, which is where I got it. Her name is Avonlea Patricia. Avy for short, her first name is pronounced a-von-lee. Not like Avon, but with a short a. Other names we were considering were Willa, which seems to be getting pretty popular, Paisley, Gemma Sue, Greer, Paige, and Ila or Isla. My little sisters are Brantley Claire, Aubrey Kai, and Presley Grace (after, you guessed it, Elvis). I also love Stella. Congrats on your little girl! Don't know if your still looking for names, but my daghter who is 6 months old is called Tekla, it was quite common for girls in Sweden about 100 years ago to be named Tekla, not so common anymore. It's a grecian name, meaning "divine fame".
Rut Agnes Tekla is her full name.
