These days I have a lot to do on my to-do list, it being January and all and getting ready for another little person to join our family. So naturally instead of calling the dentist to schedule appointments for the children to have their teeth cleaned, or facilitate the finishing of those book reports - etc. etc. etc. - we spent a recent afternoon starting valentines. Only 33 days to go, you know! (The spirit of procrastination around here is ridiculous, I realize.)
We're going with matchboxes this year, after seeing these adorable ones on Brooke's site. I scanned a drawing the 6 year old made - then we added our words, cut to size, glued onto the box, added more hearts. Voila. Then maybe with 1 day to go, we can fill them with candy (because this candy - for the sake of a pretty picture - was of course quickly eaten by the 3 year old. And me.)

Yes, it always is more fun to do crafts at the kitchen table than to fold the laundry or clean out the fridge. What's the story behind the princess? That would be cute to put a mini book in the box.

OH! MY! GOSH! this is the CUTEST thing in the world! from the matchbox, to the drawing, to the "where's my slippers?". This is one of the best yet!!!That baby must've amped up some creative juices!

You can buy matchboxes at the grocery store. Mine were I think about $1.99, and came in packs of 15.

this is a very cute idea but potentially very unsafe. matches contain the chemical perchlorate. The EPA and the state of California have issued various warnings/bans on infant and child exposure to this chemical. there is even a warning on the matchbox itself. this probably warrants looking into before you give out the candies. sorry to be a debbie downer... i was going to do this project myself until i saw the warning on the matchbox and read a little up on it.
